Coarse Fishing

County Cavan has approximately 365 lakes within it’s boundary. Many of these lakes form part of the River Erne System. The River sources from Lough Gowna and flows through County Cavan and County Fermanagh before entering the Atlantic at Ballyshannon in County Donegal. From the Gowna Lakes, the fast flowing River Erne enters the large network of lakes called Lough Oughter which lies between Cavan and Killeshandra. The River Erne is joined by the rivers Killegar (or Castle) and the Annalee which flow from Killeshandra and Shercock respectively. The wide river then flows through Belturbet and on to the Upper Lough Erne in Co Fermanagh.

For the purposes of this website we would like to concentrate on the lakes and rivers around Killeshandra. To learn more about the lakes and rivers ‘click’ on the Angling’ section on the home page.

One of our local official guides can take up to 4 anglers out in his boat along with all their fishing tackle and place them on streches of river or lake that would normally be difficult to reach by car. The guide would then leave the anglers to fish and return at a set time to collect them. This service is available for a daily fee of 24.00 Euros only (from 6.00 euro per person per day) 2 days hire costs only 40.00 euro. The ‘guide’ can be contacted through the shop.
