Welcome to our Killeshandra page.
Killeshandra is a small rural lakeside village situated 11 miles from Cavan Town. The village is surrounded by green fields, forests, lakes and rivers and its proximity to Lough Oughter makes it an anglers paradise.
There are numerous walks within the Killykeen Forest Park and the local Council are currently in the process of finalising a walk which is due to be completed shortly from Town Lake through the Castle Hamilton Estate .
Killeshandra has a very rich heritage and has many heritage sites within the area including Cloughouter Castle and the 17th Century Jacobean Church which lies within what was a circular enclosure and which is the remains of a rath.
The Calendar of Papal Registers refers to a church on this site in 1436. The present church is dated 1688 and was built by Lord Southwell. The work on restoring the church is ongoing.
Killeshandra has a strong tradition of Irish music and there are weekly sessions to be heard in 'Maggies Bar' on Thursdays nights and in the 'Shamrock' on Saturday nights.
