County Cavan has approximately 365 lakes within it's boundary. Many of these lakes form part of the River Erne System. The River sources from Lough Gowna and flows through County Cavan and County Fermanagh before entering the Atlantic at Ballyshannon in County Donegal. From the Gowna Lakes, the fast flowing River Erne enters the large network of lakes called Lough Oughter which lies between Cavan and Killeshandra. The River Erne is joined by the rivers Killegar (or Castle) and the Annalee which flow from Killeshandra and Shercock respectively. The wide river then flows through Belturbet and on to the Upper Lough Erne in Co Fermanagh.
For the purposes of this website we would like to concentrate on the lakes and rivers around Killeshandra. To learn more about the lakes and rivers 'click' on the Angling' section on the home page.
GUIDES
Currently there are no official guides for coarse fishing in the Killeshandra area, however we are in contact with a local angler who is prepared to take visitors around various lakes and put them on shoals of fish if they wish to do so. The 'guide' can be contacted through the shop. Please note that he is only available at certain times of the year.
